Mary Rebeca Ross

Mary Rebeca Ross, age 96, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away on December 15, 2022. A memorialservice is planned for the springtime of 2023. Born and raised in Pasadena, CA, she attended Pasadena College, and met her husband, Stanley Rossthere. They lived in a variety of locations from Pasadena, CA, to Charleston, OR, to Livermore, CA. Sheheld several jobs ranging from Western Union Phone Support in the 1940s, to Elementary Schoolteacher in the 1950s. They settled in Livermore, CA, for the longest period of 45 years. In 2012, sherelocated closer to her oldest son where she lived in a senior community setting. Known to most people as Rebeca (with 1 'c'), she was heavily involved in her church, Livermore Churchof the Nazarene (AKA Discovery Church of the Nazarene), volunteering at the Livermore Public Library,Valley Memorial Hospital, and Shepherd's Gate. She was very interested in Church Missions serving inher church and on the Northern California Church of the Nazarene District. She had the opportunity togo to many places around the world on Work and Witness teams. She coordinated the collection ofrolled bandages and clothing to ship worldwide. Her efforts resulted in multiple containers reachingneedy areas to help people. Her interests included vegetable gardening, reading, animals (chameleons, toads, frogs, tarantulas,turtles, etc) and she inspired these in her children. Her cooking highlights were her tamales and chilisauce (recipe from a neighbor) that were anticipated at church dinners and by family and friends. In thewarm California sun, she would make fruit leather and dried fruits like banana chips and dried apricots.She had many hobby collections: button strings, books, antiques, beanie babies and stuffed animals, toname a few. Rebeca was preceded in death by her 2 parents (Luis and Librada Vega), 2 sisters (Esther and Esperanza),husband, and many of her friends. She is survived by her remaining brother (Pepe), 2 sons (Ronald andStanley and their families), and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and theirfamilies. Mom - thank you for all you taught us and showed us. You will be missed but the memories will help ussmile and laugh as we think of your legacy.
