Joyce E. Watson

Remembrance: Joyce E. Watson, 80, passed away in her home of 57 years on February 2, 2026. She was born on May 11, 1945, in Vancouver, Washington to parents Lester and Irene Clark, both deceased. Her sister Janice Dalziel and brothers Jerry and Jeff Clark all preceded her in death. She remained a Vancouver resident her whole life. Joyce graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1963, where she played saxophone in the marching band and sang in the choir. After high school, she worked at Jantzen Knitting Mill, and then enjoyed working briefly as a welder. In 1965, she married Robert W. Johnson and they welcomed their son, Michael, the same year. Their daughter, Melissa, was welcomed in 1969. After divorcing in 1972, Joyce worked as a keypunch operator for an insurance company until she was hired by the Bureau Of Land Management in 1978. She retired from there after 30 years of service as a statistical assistant in 2008. She was a beloved Grandma to Jennifer Johnson (1988), Jessica Brown (1989), Alec Larson (1998), and Evan Larson (2001), and Great-Grandma to Robin Bean (2007). Joyce was a talented seamstress and a meticulous homemaker. She very much enjoyed being outdoors, working in her yard. She was also very interested in politics, and always had news on the radio. She contributed regularly to various Veteran’s charities. In her later years, she was a voracious reader. She was a huge Elvis Presley fan, and collected his memorabilia over the decades. She also loved her cats; Katie, ‘Manda, Brenda, and Sydney all gave her much joy in their too-short lives. Joyce was a past member of Manor Grange #1101. She was also a past member of the Women of the Moose chapter at Dollar’s Corner Moose lodge, and spent many hours volunteering her time there. Joyce was blessed to have many lifelong friendships, and she cherished every one of them. She was very generous with friends and family, especially with her time, and could always be called on to help when needed. She was funny and compassionate. She was also direct and always spoke her mind. Above all, Joyce was a strong, loving mother, who gave her all to Michael and Melissa. For that, they will always be grateful. She will be very dearly missed, and will always remain in our hearts.
