JOHN “JACK” BOEHLER November 30, 1934 ˜ May 31, 2026 John “Jack” Boehler, a proud American by choice and a beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away on May 31, 2026. He was 91 years old. Born on November 30, 1934, in Lawton, Alberta, Canada, to Charles Bernard Boehler and Emily Nixon Boehler, Jack’s life was defined by hard work, deep loyalty, and an easy warmth that drew people to him wherever he went. He made his way to Alaska, where shortly after his 34th birthday-he became a naturalized American citizen, a milestone he carried with tremendous pride for the rest of his life. He and his beloved wife, Nellie, shared that pride together. Jack built his career in the oil fields of Alaska, spending the better part of four decades working on the North Slope, including most of his years managing oil rigs in Prudhoe Bay. It was demanding, unforgiving work at the edge of the world, and Jack spoke of it with the quiet satisfaction of a man who had given his best to something hard. He rose to the role of oil rig manager and earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him. Over the years, Jack split his time between Alaska and Oregon before eventually settling in Vancouver, Washington, where he and Nellie made their home and raised their family. Jack was a man of generous spirit, not just in heart but in his good deeds. He was a devoted supporter of the ASPCA, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Wounded Warriors, faithfully contributing each month. He also quietly supported an Indigenous school in Canada for many years, a cause close to his roots and his values. He never spoke much about these contributions; that was simply the kind of man he was. In retirement, Jack’s world grew quieter and sweeter. He was a devoted lover of small, spirited dogs, first Beamer, then Tanner, and finally Buddy, who kept him moving, laughing, and sharp in his later years. He loved to get behind the wheel of his truck and cruise around town, never missing a chance to chat with a neighbor, crack a joke with a stranger, or say just the right thing to put a smile on someone’s face. Jack had a gift for that, for making people feel noticed and lighter than they were before they met him. Above all, Jack loved his family. His three children survive him: Karen Harvey Miller of Allyn, Washington; Gina Kim-Sadiku of Middle Village, New York; and Corey Boehler of Canby, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nellie B. Boehler, and his stepson, Kenneth Albert Harvey, both of whom he carried close in his heart. He is also survived by relatives in Canada who remain part of the family he cherished. Jack Boehler lived a full life one built on grit, citizenship, generosity, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him. Memorial Service The family is planning a memorial service for Jack, and friends and family are invited to attend.
