Sherry Anne Mathews, 78, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, in Portland, Oregon. Born on August 18, 1947, in Sunnyside, Washington, Sherry lived a life rooted in love, family, laughter, and an appreciation for the beauty of the world around her. Sherry is survived by her daughters, Julie Mathews and LeeAnne Mathews; her grandchildren, Makenna Ferrer, Mikayla Ferrer, Easton Jones, and Emmalee Jones; and her siblings, Kathy Jackson, Richard Jackson, and Merry Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Jackson and Betty Jackson. Though born in Washington, Sherry considered Hawaii home. She spent 48 years living in the islands, where she raised her daughters and developed a deep love for the people, culture, music, and spirit of aloha. The beauty of Hawaii and its traditions remained close to her heart throughout her life. Sherry found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved listening to Hawaiian music, tending to her plants, and working on puzzles. She especially enjoyed admiring nature—watching clouds drift across the sky, taking in the beauty of the mountains, and appreciating the quiet strength of trees. She had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor, and a gift for making others laugh. Above all, Sherry cherished her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love, kindness, strength, and unwavering care touched the lives of those around her. Her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. Sherry will be remembered for her warm heart, resilient spirit, sense of humor, and the love she shared so freely with family and friends. Her memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and cherished moments she leaves behind. In keeping with her love for Hawaii, her ashes will be scattered at a private family gathering in the waters off Waikiki, a place she dearly loved.
