Minnie H. Carter

Minnie H. Taddeo Carter February 16, 1915 June 21, 2009 Born in Portland, Oregon to Marietta and Fiore Taddeo, the eldest of three children, followed by a sister Lucy, and then a brother Alfred, Minnie's young hard working Italian family grew. Her father died when she was four, and a few years later her mother married John Salta, and her new baby brother Mike was born. The family lived and grew up in SE Portland just off 42nd and Hawthorne, where her mother lived out her 100 year life. Minnie married Oel M. Carter in 1936, and the following year a daughter, Marietta was born. Oel went off to fight in WWII, and on his return the family moved to Vancouver, Washington. She and her husband struggled in the restaurant business for many years as cooking was a passion for Minnie. She loved to feed people! 1951, surprise! Little Billy was born. Minnie continued in the food business with the help of her family as Marietta was a built in babysitter. The loss of Oel in 1961 changed Minnie's life forever. She became the supreme single mother to her son and her three grandchildren from Marietta. She also was devoted to her Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes, and the kitchen was her natural place to give of her talents. She was also very active in the Catholic Daughters, driving those who needed transportation to wherever. She also developed a passion for Jesuit High School in Portland where her son and two grandchildren attended. She continued to volunteer in the church and community until a car accident slowed her down and she was unable to work. She was only slowed down a bit as she continued to help whenever and wherever she could for her extended family until physically unable. Minnie is survived by her daughter, Marietta Lee, Vancouver, son, Bill Carter (Gayle) Lake Oswego. Sister, Lucille Schmiedescamp, Portland, brother, Alfred Taddeo(Joan), Newport Coast, CA., brother, Mike Salta(Jan), Indian Wells, CA. Grand Children; Jeanne Hill, Troutdale, OR, Mike Fleming (Sue), Vancouver, Courtney Carter, Manhattan, NY, Kyle Carter (Nikki), Beaverton, OR. Five Great Grandchildren and five Great Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death a grandson Arthur Fleming. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes, Catholic Church in Vancouver, WA. Monday, June 29th at 11AM, reception will follow at the church and internment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, WA. Remembrances can be made to the charity of your choice.
