Leota May Shaffer

Leota Shaffer was born Leota May Campbell on October 14th, 1919 in Wilkin, Minnesota to Eros H. and Olive Berkshire Campbell. Leota traveled via covered wagon arriving in Yacolt Washington in 1921. She married Roy H. Lewis of Hood River, Oregon in 1937 and gave birth to her first child, Anita in 1940. She would later marry a WW2 solider, Lee F. Shaffer of Vancouver Washington on October 9th of 1944. They then had two more children, Sandra in 1945 and Lee Jr. in 1946. Leota loved dancing; everything from the Charleston to the Waltz and even the Hula for good measure. She was enthusiastic in social activities with the Eagles and held positions among the organization many years over from Secretary to President. She was blessed with 4 grandchildren; Kayline, Coreen, Scott and Michael and 4 great grandchildren; Andrea, Hayley, Kaitlyn and Brian. She spent much of her time baking pies, date cookies and fudge for Christmas and was a master of homemade Macaroni and Cheese. She enjoyed crocheting many items from doilies to wedding quilts for both her grand and great grandchildren while watching the Price is Right. Leota was a Mariner fan, enjoyed the competitive edge she held during family dice games and was a part of a bowling league. Leota was a big animal lover and was involved in volunteering with the Guide Dogs for the Blind and had a knack for finding the perfect costume for any party. Leota passed September 9th, 2017 in the love and care of her family. Leota will always be loved and remembered as a friendly, well dressed, spunky dance-o-holic with spark, style and a smile. A limb has fallen from the family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, Im counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remember all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, dont worry about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes were together again. ~ Anonymous ~
