Larri-Lea Day

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend, Larri-Lea Gilchrist Kissell Day, of Vancouver, WA, peacefully and unexpectedly passed away on October 30, 2018 of an undetected heart condition. She was 66. Larri-Lea was born in Gold Beach, Oregon on November 17, 1951 to Lois Moon. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a teenager and met her eternal sweetheart, Randal DeWayne Day, shortly after high school graduation. They were married in the Oakland, CA LDS Temple on December 13,1969. Larri-Lea found her greatest joy in caring for her 5 children and especially her 8 grandchildren; they were the light of her life. She lovingly supported her "hon", Randy, as he took faculty positions at SDSU, WSU and BYU during their 47 years of marriage. Although she loved travelling the world, she was always eager to get back home to her family and friends. Larri-Lea's remarkable life was one of tireless, faithful service and unconditional, Christlike love for others. As a member of the LDS church, Larri-Lea held many callings and was often placed in positions of leadership. She served as a Young Women president, Relief Society president, full-time missionary in the Romania/Moldova Mission and most recently as Stake Relief Society president. She also held a position at the Pullman LDS Institute of Religion where she worked as a secretary in the 1990s. In each of these positions, she ministered with a compassionate ability to connect with each person she served in a deeply personal way. Wherever she lived, Larri-Lea engaged in her community with full purpose, making immediate, lifelong friends and serving anyone in need. She touched countless lives with her unmatched kindness and infectious laugh. Larri-Lea was charity personified. Nobody doesn't like Larri-Lea. Larri-Lea blessed lives through her many talents. She was an avid reader, gifted seamstress, crafter, Master Gardener, genealogist, and peacemaker. Larri-Lea fulfilled a lifelong dream of earning a college education when she graduated in 2015 from BYU with a bachelor's in horticulture. She was an excellent wordsmith and with her large vocabulary she could often guess the Wheel of Fortune clue with one letter. She couldn't talk without using her hands; her made up sign-language is legendary and will be passed on for generations to come. Larri-Lea was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Randal Day; her mother, Lois (Moon) Chard; her chosen father, Charles Kissell; and her brothers, Jimmy, Charles and Wallace Kissell. She leaves behind her children, Sean (Jean Lee) Day of Seattle, Jennifer (Andrew) Walker of Logan, UT, Alyson Day of Vancouver, WA, Carrie Day of Brooklyn, NY, Jacob (Karina) Day of Tempe, AZ; sister, Ellen Kissell of Spanish Fork, UT; brother, Hal Kissell of Provo, UT; and 8 of the most loved grandchildren in the world. She also leaves behind a father-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who wonder how to carry on without this bright, shining light in their lives. A viewing will be held at the Felida Ward meetinghouse, Fri., Nov. 9, 2018 at 14400 Northwest 26th Avenue, Vancouver, WA at 9AM. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM, with interment at Park Hill Cemetery, 5915 E Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA at 2PM. Flowers can be sent to Evergreen Memorial Gardens funeral home in Vancouver, WA. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Master Gardener program through WSU Vancouver/Clark County Extension.
