Gerry Andrew Withey VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON Gerry Andrew Withey, 66, passed away Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Edgerton, Wisconsin on December 30, 1948, he was the son of Irene Ellen Hippe Withey and Mark Francis Withey. His family moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois where Gerry spent most of his early life. He graduated from Arlington High School and later attended Harper Junior College. He served his country as an active Naval Reservist stationed at Glenview Naval Air Station in Illinois. Gerry moved to Boise, Idaho where he was employed by Hewlett Packard as a computer draftsman. He loved his time in Boise and enjoyed his free time with his friends, his dogs, Pandy and Brandy, his home and his boat. He was relocated to Vancouver, Washington. Gerry made friends through work, bowling, golf, playing pool, and being a kind and helpful neighbor. It was said that he was the glue that held his neighborhood together. Many of those friends and neighbors have reciprocated with help and devotion while he dealt with his cancer. Gerry was a gifted athlete. He loved baseball as a child but became a gymnast in high school, specializing on the horizontal bar. Gerry was an avid golfer, serving as assistant pro at a local golf course. Gerry also excelled at bowling and was on many leagues. He enjoyed shooting pool with his friends. Gerry also kept fit by dancing (especially Disco) and even taught dance at local clubs and for Harper Junior College in Illinois. Gerry perfected his skills at home repair and maintained a beautiful home. He loved his yard. He fed hummingbirds, loved dogs and cared deeply about his family and friends. Gerry had a witty sense of humor. He loved football and was a staunch supporter of the Green Bay Packers. Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, Mark F. Withey and Irene Withey of Arlington Heights, Illinois and by his Sister-in-law, Mary Withey of Naperville, Illinois. Gerry is survived by his brother, Mark Withey of Naperville, Illinois; his sister, Susan Withey Cook of Rockland, Maine; his sister Candace Withey Huyvaert (Gary) of Elgin, Illinois; his nephews Kindle Cook, Daniel Cook; and his nieces, Christine Withey Bajuyo (Christopher) and Carolyn Withey; his great nephews Braden and Caleb Bajuyo and great niece Amelia Bajuyo; as well as many dear friends and neighbors. A celebration of Gerry's life will be held Saturday. September 19, 2015 at 12:30 at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1101 NE 112th Avenue, Vancouver, Washington.
