Francine Ann Linn

FRANCINE ANN LINN March 8, 1947 ~ June 11, 2018 "We have just lost a wonderful person who made the world a better place to live." Francine A. Linn, 71, of Vancouver, WA, passed away June 11, 2018 from a terrible stroke. She was born Francine Ann Mortek in Monterey, CA to her parents, Victoria (Mac) and Francis Mortek on March 8, 1947. Francine graduated from Providence Academy, Vancouver in 1965, where she was a member of the debate club for three years, President of the speech club her Senior year and a member of the Latin club. From there, she worked for Meier & Frank in Cosmetics. Francine was the first Cosmetics Manager at the Meier & Frank Vancouver Mall store when it opened. Francine moved on to 1st Independent Bank as a teller and then in 1982 she became the owner of a Quick Stop Minit Mart, eventually owning two stores which she sold in 1994. Francine retired from Washington State Department of Corrections in 2013, where she worked as a Secretary for Parole Officers, a job she greatly enjoyed. Francine loved animals, especially her golden retriever Fred. She also loved dancing, boating, fishing, creating beautiful bead work and making dolls with the help of her late mother. Francine's mother Victoria was half Hunkpapa Sioux Indian, which made Francine extremely proud of her Native American heritage. Francine's father was a Sergeant Major in the army, so they lived in different locations around the world. One of which was Japan after WWII where at the age of three Francine became fluent (as a three old can be) in Japanese and according to her mother she became their personal translator during their stay in Japan. Francine was good at everything she did, however she was exceptional at two things, one was anything to do with words. She could usually finish both of the Sunday crosswords the same day. The other was her phenomenal talent with food. Francine made extraordinary meals which we always looked forward to enjoying! Francine is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jim; brother, John Mortek (Valerie); and sister, Vicki Work (Jim). Francine was a wonderful loving person who will be remembered and greatly missed.
