Eugene Grembowski

EUGENE GREMBOWSKI RETIRED CAPTAIN, USAF July 21, 1938 ~ November 4, 2016 "Gene" Grembowski, age 78, was born in Bay City, Michigan in 1938 on July 21 to the late Barney and Mary (Senkowski) Grembowski. Gene grew up in Bay City and enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his uncles Andy and Tony Grembowski. He joined the United States Air Force at age 17. Shortly after that, Gene met the love of his life, Teresa (Frasik) of Flint, Michigan and they were married for 50 years. They were both members of the Catholic Church and through their faith are now happily reunited in heaven. Two children were born, Bruce and Debora, and together they traveled and lived in many different places all over the country. Gene obtained his GED, Bachelor of Science Degree from Michigan State University and an MBA from George Washington University while working in the procurement department of the military. He was promoted to the rank of Captain before retiring in Merced, California. Gene started a second career at Farmers Insurance, first as an office services manager and then as their fleet manager in Pasadena, California. He retired for a second time to Henderson, Nevada, but moved a few years later for the last time to be near his grandson, Connor Johnson, in Vancouver, Washington. Gene always worked hard to provide and care for his family, as family was the most important thing to him. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps and rooting for his favorite Michigan sports teams like the Detroit Tigers. Gene, being a Boy Scout himself, was proud to support his grandson in becoming an Eagle Scout. He was a thoughtful and caring father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Gene is survived by his son, Bruce Grembowski and his wife, Sara of Washougal, Washington; his daughter, Debora Johnson and her husband, Craig of Vancouver, Washington; his grandson, Connor Johnson; his brother, Jack Grembowski and his wife, Cheryl of Bay City, Michigan along with their children, John Grembowski, Jeffrey Grembowski and Jennifer Hugo; his brother, Jerry Grembowski and his wife, Marianne of Milford, Michigan and their son, Andrew Grembowski; and sister-in-law, Lavern Poe of Clio, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Teresa; brother-in-law, Jerry Szabo; sister-in-law, Jeanette Szabo; sister-in-law, Genevieve Bear; and nieces, Kathleen Poe and Katie Grembowski. On Wednesday, November 16th, 2016, a service with full military honors will be held at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon at 10:30 a.m. where Gene will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Teresa. A lunch reception will be held at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens at 12:00 p.m. in Vancouver, Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors.
