Edward Charles Vickers

Edward Charles Vickers, dedicated husband and father of four, passed away, surrounded by family on Monday, October 10th, 2022 at age 64, in Vancouver, WA after succumbing to cancer. Ed was born on July 25th, 1958 to the late Frank and B. Essie Vickers in Henry County, Alabama. An avid fisherman, and business owner Ed earned a bachelor's degree in education from Liberty University and spent over twenty-four years as a highly respected business owner and operator of the tax firm A-Taxes, LLC. In 2016, Ed was inducted into the Liberty University Basketball Hall of Fame. Ed was a key component in Liberty's 1980 NCCAA National Championship team, earning NCCAA All-American honorable mention, all-tournament and all-district honors during Liberty's run to the national title. In high school Ed was an All-American basketball player, and his hometown of Headland, Alabama still celebrates April 24th as Ed Vickers day. Ed was known for his charismatic storytelling, diligent faith, generous spirit and ever-present smile, especially while meeting someone who would inevitably become a new friend and while serving as a beloved greeter at Heritage Church alongside his wife Karen. The Heritage Church Fish Fry became not only a family tradition but a highly anticipated community celebration, where Ed had a goal of eventually feeding 5,000 people. The attendees grew into the thousands and it served as the reason Ed would go on his famous month-long Westport fishing trip to catch all the fish for the annual event. Ed became known as a fisher of men and welcomed the opportunity to connect with community to witness about God's blessings. Ed cherished the wisdom his parents taught him regarding giving back and sharing what you have, because God has blessed us mightily, so you can always give from what you have received. Ed would often share "when you put God first in your life plans you will be successful." Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Karen L. Vickers, and children Derrick (Carol) Smith, Chabre Vickers, Eddie (Amanda) Vickers, Andrew Vickers, and granddaughter Laila Vickers, and his brothers Frank (Faye) Vickers, Nathaniel (Ann) Vickers, Daniel Vickers, and sisters Mary Frances Reeves, Mary (Rev. JN) Flowers, Barbara (Samuel) Hollis, and several nieces, nephews, and aunts. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Frank & B. Essie Vickers, brother Roy Jr Vickers, sister Annie Jewel Baxter, and brother in law Travis Reeves Sr. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Heritage Church (8803 NE 76th Street, Vancouver, WA 98662), All are welcome.
