Dorothea Janet Towner

Dorothea (Dot/Dorothy) Janet Sanchagrin Towner entered into Eternal Rest Saturday, February 10, 2024. Dorothy was born November 28, 1942 in NY, New York. As a young child, she and her family moved to Sara, Washington. She loved to tell stories of growing up in that small town with her 10 siblings; picking berries, sledding down the hill near the general store, playing in the creek, and searching for "falling stars" in the fields at night. Dorothy and her family moved to Santa Clara, California in the mid-late 1950's. As a teen she enjoyed playing basketball, baton twirling, and listening to music. She loved old R&B, Rock & Roll, and Classic Country. Music filled our home, her favorite songs became the soundtrack of our childhood. Dorothy met William "Bill" Towner in 1959. They were married 63 years. For most of those years Dorothy was a Stay-At-Home Mom raising five kids. She also babysat her grandkids, neighbor, friends, and relative's kids through the years. She was never kidless! She was a great cook, budget conscious shopper, baby rocker, and welcoming hostess to all. She loved to laugh, tell jokes and gab over coffee at her kitchen table. Her home was "The Hangout". She was dearly loved by all who knew her. Over the years Dorothy enjoyed sewing, ceramics, Bingo, family picnics, hosting gatherings for every occasion, day trips to the lake and river, shopping, casino trips, breakfast (her favorite), lunch and dinner dates with her kids and grandkids, and she enjoyed board and card games. Our Scrabble dates were some of the funnest and funniest memories in recent times.Dorothy worked briefly in the mid 1980's for Hand Creations in California. Her very first job. She revelled in her new independence beyond her role as Wife and Mother and she enjoyed spending time with her coworkers, some of whom she stayed in touch with through the years. In the early 1990's Dorothy and Bill, following their daughters, moved to Vancouver, Washington. Dorothy was back in the state where she had spent her childhood. Dorothy dedicated her whole life to her family. Her husband, her five children, thirteen Grandchildren, and twelve Great-Grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved, cared, and worried about every single one! She never retired from being a Mom or Grandma, she loved until her heart wore out. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Lillian Sanchagrin, her mother and father In-law William and Fidela Towner. Her beloved son Rick Towner. Her brothers Charley Sanchagrin, Fred Sanchagrin, Russell Sanchagrin, Tom Sanchagrin, Robert Sanchagrin, and sisters Alice and her husband Bob McGowan, and Joyce Jones. In-laws Frances and Frank Pereira, Ray Sablan, Ann Towner, Ray Caprario, and her Grandbaby Trevor Little. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband William "Bill" Towner, her loving family, sisters Theresa Caprario and Joan Byers, her brother Richard and his wife Sonja Sanchagrin, Sister In-laws Lucy Sanchagrin, Angie Sanchagrin, and Tillie Sablan, In-laws Gene and Sally Towner, and John and Lisa Towner. Surviving Beloved Children; Tina and her husband Jay Swennes, Ray Towner, Joe Towner, and Debbie Little.Dorothy is also survived by former (but forever in her heart) Daughter In-laws Janene Towner-Chernoff and Elva Towner, and Son In-law Lance Little. Surviving Treasured Grandchildren; Richard and Anna Towner, Jessica and Donnie Gupton, Joseph and Morgan Towner, Jeremy and Brandy Towner, Tanya and Chris Hopkins, Raechel Towner, John Towner, Krystal Swennes, Breanna Minneker, Derek Minneker, Robert and Ellise Minneker, and Travis Little. Dorothy is also survived by her twelve Precious Great-Grandchildren, and dearest nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Dorothy dedicated her life to all whom she loved.
